Old Mutual Foundation

In 2020, Teachink partnered with Old Mutual Foundation to increase financial literacy amongst South African teachers & learners via the Learn Think Do (LTD). We mapped content knowledge & skills in the Curriculum & Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS) for various subjects to content knowledge & skills required in Financial Education and Financial Literacy.

Financial literacy concepts were mapped against the Grade 10-12 Maths Literacy curriculum and 11 financial topics were developed in all 12 SA languages, as well as Braille. Key topics covered interest rates, income & expenses, and profit & loss. Multimedia formats included animated videos, printed & interactive worksheets & podcasts across multichannels, driving equitable access to LTD’s resources.

In 2023, we launched a micro learning teacher professional development programme in three provinces which was endorsed by the Department of Basic Education. The programme is designed to equip teachers to teach Maths Lit concepts more effectively by combining robust teaching methodologies with the LTD resources catalogue. The hybrid training programme is delivered via the DBE’s micro learning platform which is supported with in-classroom facilitation by Teachink’s facilitators.

Since 2023 Old Mutual’s LTD programme has trained over 2500 FET Maths Literacy teachers and supported over 100 000 FET learners across four provinces. The LTD programme continues delivery of financial literacy awareness.

  • Print ATP resources in colour but at B/W pricing and deliver to schools a term in advance leading to improved planning & reduced OPEX.
  • Academic results improvement via helping teachers improve curriculum coverage whilst improving learner comprehension through the use of printed colour and pre-prepared classroom activities.

The ATP programme, in partnership with Xanctus Advisory and InsideData, soft launched with a focus on the intermediate phase (Grade 4-6) subjects to a control group of primary schools in 2023 followed by a bigger rollout in 2024. Plans to expand the programme into more phases, subjects and the versioning of Maths and Science material into mother tongue is underway with various provincial education departments.
